       1. When the carbon brush is installed in the brush holder, it must be able to move up and down freely. The gap between the carbon brush and the inner wall of the brush holder is between 0.1-0.3 mm to avoid swinging between the carbon brush and the brush holder due to the large gap. The distance between the lower edge of the brush holder and the surface of the commutator should be kept at about 2 mm.

     2. In principle, the same type of carbon brushes should be used on the same motor, but for individual large and medium-sized motors that are particularly difficult to commutate, twin carbon brushes can be used. The sliding in side uses good lubrication performance, and the sliding side uses restraint. Carbon brushes with strong sparking ability can improve the operation of carbon brushes.

　　3. The pressure of the carbon brushes of the same motor should be uniform, so as to avoid uneven current distribution, which may cause overheating and sparks of individual carbon brushes. The unit pressure of the carbon brush should be selected according to the "carbon brush technical performance table". For motors with higher speeds or motors working under vibration conditions, the unit pressure should be appropriately increased to ensure normal operation.

On the contrary, strengthening the maintenance of the current collecting device can detect and solve problems early, and can avoid many accidents. For motors with commutators, because the carbon brushes not only conduct current but also commutate, their monitoring workload is much greater. It is very important to observe the status and characteristics of the reversing spark frequently and carefully. The size and status of the commutation spark of a DC motor is a reflection of the combined effects of various factors that affect the commutation, and is the main indicator of the performance of the motor.
